One of the many talents we need to develop as trades is the ability to recognize patterns. Some people are naturally better at that than others, but we all need to nourish this area if we want to become excellent traders.
I really like to discover and understand symmetrical patterns in charts, and I think that symmetry is one of the TA areas that are not typically explained very much (or very well). Like any patterns, once you understand it, you start seeing it everywhere :-)
BP presented a beautiful and almost perfectly symmetrical chart today. Here is the plain 15 min BP chart for today. I removed my moving averages so the shapes can be seen without distractions.
On the next graphic I placed a blue/gray line at the center of the chart where BP started developing a mirror image of the action that took place in the morning. Something interesting to note is that the blue line falls on the 12:15 bar. That bar is relatively narrow in range (not a truly NRB) but a volume spike accompanies it. BP, which until that point had been running a pretty clean downtrend, finally gets exhausted. Another thing to note is how the bars before and after the 12:15 bar test the pivot point of the day (cyan color).
The next graphic shows how perfectly circular is the base of that cup-like shape, which is another indication that bulls are regaining control.
On the next graphic I superimposed the second half of the session (after 12:15) over the first half of the session, so you can see how perfectly symmetrical this chart is.
Finally, here is the chart I used during the session with my entry and exit. At the time of the entry I was quite confident that the uptrend would continue till the end of the session.
